The Wechsel Pioneer is a two-person tunnel tent that brings a solid mix of space and lightweight carry weight to the backcountry. With a symmetrical 235 × 235 cm footprint and a peak height of 105 cm, it gives you enough room for two sleepers and their gear under a streamlined profile.
The tent’s outer fabric is ripstop polyester with a polyurethane coating, which helps resist tears and keeps drips at bay, while the inner layer of breathable polyester cuts down on condensation. Beneath you, the reinforced polyester groundsheet stands up to rough ground, and the set of aluminium 7001 T6 poles keeps overall weight near 1.9 kg when you strip down to trail weight. When it’s time to move on, it packs down to about 45 × 16 cm, fitting easily into a backpack’s side pocket or sling.
“Ripstop” refers to a grid of heavier threads woven into the fabric to stop small holes from growing, and the “D” number (like 68D or 75D) indicates how thick each thread is—the higher the number, the more resistant it tends to be. The aluminium 7001 T6 poles come from a heat-treated alloy that balances strength and lightness, and the PU coating is a thin layer of polyurethane that adds a barrier against moisture.
